Abstract:
In the rural areas of Romania and especially in the Banat region, nutrition constitutes, by tradition and habits, important hazard in the development and evolution of cardiovascular diseases. The high intake of animal lipids (fatty meat, pork grease, lard, eggs, butter, whipped cream, sausages, etc.) known from epidemiological studies defines high risk population of cardiovascular pathology with high levels of cholesterolemia and/or of triglyceridemia. Our results showed that more than 1/3 (37.93%) of the population had one risk factor - hypercholesterolemia, 8.03% had mixed hyperlipidemia with high values of both cholesterol and triglycerides and 1.56% had only hypertriglyceridemia as a risk factor. Moreover, the traditional nutrition results in high caloric intake leading to excessive body weight and/or hypertension in the population with already existing risk factors. Smoking, too, as a high risk factor contributes to the development of cardiovascular diseases.
