Foreword
The Second Regional Conference on Environment and Health of the Danube-Kris-Mures-Tisa
Euroregion organized by the Szeged Regional Committee of the Hungarian Academy of
Sciences and the Department of Public Health, Faculty of Medicine, University of Szeged
was held on 12 May 2000 in Szeged, Hungary. The aim of this series of scientific meetings,
the first of which was held in Arad, Romania last year, has been to promote information
exchange between professionals working in the region and those engaged in theoretical or
practical studies of its environmental problems. At the same time, such conferences
provided and will further provide a suitable scientific background for discussions
about common principles for solving region-wide problems and their implementation.
The organizers hereby express their sincere gratitude
to the leaders of the regional Academic Committee, especially the late Academician
Prof. Dr. Kálmán Burger, for enabling the organization of the meeting at their
premises. The General Assembly of Csongrád County, and personally Vice-President
Dr. László Botka, are also thanked for their support. The contribution of the
above-mentioned persons and institutions was vital in organizing the Conference.
We finally thank the Editorial Board of Central
European Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine for publishing
selected presentations of the Conference.
