Foreword
The 7th Regional Conference on Environmental Health of the Danube–Kris–Mures–Tisa Euroregion was held
on 17 June 2005 in Szeged, Hungary, organized by the Szeged Regional Committee of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences
and the Department of Public Health, Faculty of Medicine, University of Szeged. This series of scientific meetings
offered a good chance to the participants to exchange their information in the field of environmental health, and to
present the results of experiments and epidemiological studies made by the colleagues interested in the theoretical
and practical problems of the macro- and/or microenvironment of the region.
During the Conference, the statutes and scientific program of the Association of
Environmental Health and Protection of DKMT Euroregion, the first scientific organisation of the region, were
accepted. These documents serve as a fundament for active cooperation of the experts, provide an official frame for
the common principles, and for the members’ firm intention to solve region-wide environmental problems.
The organizers express their sincere gratitude to the leaders of the regional Academic
Committee, especially Academician Prof. Gyula Telegdy, for enabling the organization of the meeting in their premises.
The support by the General Assembly of Csongrád County, and personally Vice-President Attila Marosvári, is also a
cknowledged. The contribution of the above-mentioned people and institutions was essential in organizing the Conference.
We would like to express our gratitude to the Editorial Office of the Central European Journal
of Occupational and Environmental Medicine for publishing the presentations of the Conference, and also to Dr. Attila Mitsányi
and Dr. András Papp for their activity in making the papers ready for print.
