Continuing the tradition established five years ago, the last Danube–Kris–Mures–Tisa (DKMT) meeting on environmental health
was organized on October 14–15, 2004 in Timişoara (Romania) hosted by the University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary
Medicine of Banat (USAMVB). The meeting was attended by over 50 participants from Germany, Hungary, Romania, and Serbia and
Montenegro. The topics were diverse and offered up-to-date information related to some current research on environmental health
and medicine.
The first DKMT meeting took place in Arad (Romania) in 1999, bringing together specialists from
Hungary, Serbia, and Romania. The process continued in Szeged (Hungary) – with two occasions –, in Petrosani (Romania) and, last
year, in Novi Sad (Serbia and Montenegro).
This meeting was organized by USAMVB, Western University “Vasile Goldiş” Arad, and the University
of Medicine and Pharmacy “Victor Babeş” Timişoara, under the patronage of the Timişoara Branch of the Romanian
Academy and the Timişoara County Council.
The environmental problems related to human health are major problems of the present and the future
that can only be approached with interdisciplinary work of teams coming from various disciplines related to the environmental and
medical sciences.
At the conference, the establishment of the Association of Environmental Health and Protection of the
DKMT Euroregion was also propounded to foster communication and scientific interaction of the participants at the present and
further meetings.
We are convinced that the meeting has been a success and that its purpose has been fulfilled to a
great extent.
